This beautiful weatherboard villa in Mt Eden, Auckland, was full of character and charm but was showing its age. The paint was peeling, the weatherboards were cracking, and the “Grandma-Green” colour made it look outdated. The homeowners loved their classic villa but knew it would need professional assistance to complete.
They wanted to protect the timber from Auckland’s harsh weather while preserving the home’s old-world charm. They also liked the idea of modernising the colour scheme with a crisp grey-and-white palette. Cleaning and Surface Preparation

Priming
Older weatherboards need proper priming to seal the timber and prevent moisture from getting in. We applied a high-quality primer to all exposed areas, sealing the timber and providing a solid base for the topcoat.
Painting:
We then used Dulux professional-grade paint in a crisp grey-and-white colour scheme that modernised the home while preserving the villa’s character. We applied two top coats using a combination of brush and roller techniques, ensuring even coverage and a professional finish.
The Finished Villa
This grand old lady was truly transformed. The character of the villa was beautifully preserved, but the outdated “Grandma-Green” was long gone. The new grey colour scheme gave her a fresh, modern look, and the crisp white trim highlighted the intricate architectural details. The soft grey weatherboards provided a sleek, elegant backdrop.
