Total Shower Refurbishment – Browns Bay

A new shower feel – without the renovation price tag

The Brief

This homeowner in Browns Bay took a look at their outdated bathroom and thought the only option was to rip it out and start again. The mosaic tiles were dull, the grout was stained and mouldy, and the whole room felt past its prime. They thought they were looking down the barrel of a $20,000 renovation, complete with the chaos of plumbers, tilers, electricians, and weeks of disruption.

But here’s the thing: there was nothing wrong with the actual bathroom fixtures or fittings. There were no leaks or cracks, just a whole lot of grime and discolouration. What they really needed was a total shower refurbishment that could bring the tiles and grout back to life without tearing everything out. That’s when they called us in to see if we could save them from a costly renovation nightmare.

The ProGroup Solution

This shower didn’t need ripping out and replacing. A proper refresh and refurbishment was what it needed to look brand new again. Here’s how we made it happen:

Deep Extraction Cleaning:

We kicked things off with a deep extraction tile clean using industrial-grade cleaning solutions designed to lift out years of dirt, grime, and mould. We used specialised cleaning machines that dug deep into the grout lines and tiles, peeling back the years, one layer at a time.

Epoxy Grout Replacement in the Shower Base:

The grout in the shower base was stained, mouldy, and looking worse for wear. We removed the old, tired grout and replaced it with waterproof and stain-resistant epoxy grout. Unlike traditional cement grout, epoxy grout is completely waterproof and doesn’t absorb stains or mould, making it perfect for wet areas like showers.

Colour Sealing the Grout on Walls and Floor:

The mosaic tiles meant there were acres of grout lines, and they were all stained and discoloured. Instead of digging out all the grout, we used colour sealing to restore the original colour and provide a stain-proof, water-resistant solution.

Silicone Replacement and Glass Shower Restoration:

The old silicone was peeling and discoloured, making the whole shower look tired and grubby. We carefully removed the old silicone and replaced it with anti-mould, waterproof silicone.

We also restored the glass shower screen using a special process that removed water stains and soap scum, bringing clarity back to the glass.

The Finished Shower

The homeowners were rather stoked with the result. They loved how new and clean the bathroom looked and were thrilled to avoid the $20,000 price tag (not to mention the weeks of chaos) that come with a full renovation. And the best part? The shower was only out of action for a few days.

It was the perfect solution. No mess, no fuss, just a fresh, modern bathroom that looked like a complete makeover.
