The broad term "louvred pergola" encompasses a wide range of structures in the marketplace.
At the bottom end are standard sized DIY assembled kitsets available through big box stores such as Bunnings, Trade Tested, and Container Door. These structures are made of lightweight aluminium and fixings and therefore are not very sturdy. While they may last a couple of years, they are not really designed to withstand the strong winds New Zealand is subjected to. They tend to rattle and sway, and generally are not suitable for accessories such as zip blinds or shutters. These structures will most likely have a manually operated louvre system.
In the mid range, structures are available through general importing companies who import pergolas along with outdoor furniture, garden ornaments, and garden sheds. The quality of the materials and designs vary, and generally these structures are only available in standard sizes such as 3m x 4m, or 4m x 5m. Often sold through online websites, these companies typically do not offer an installation service (or contract that work out to installers), resulting in no real technical expertise or support for the homeowner. Manual and motorised versions are available, but the latter is not something that a homeowner can really install and commission themselves due to the complexity of the electrical systems.
At the high end, pergolas are designed bespoke (custom) to fit your property. These may be sold in New Zealand by brands associated with large aluminium extrusion companies (manufactured in New Zealand), or marketed and sold by specialist companies who design the structure and have it manufactured off-shore. At this end of the scale the pergola is a true permanent extension of your home providing resilient weather protection, tested to wind and snow loadings, and totally flexible in terms of shape, size, mounting systems, and accessories (such as zip blinds, louvred shutters, etc).
LouvreRoofPro's range of pergolas fall into the mid and high end range and are manufactured to fit your site perfectly. Our specialists will visit your property to discuss the best size, shape, position, and location of your new pergola. Technical drawings are then created by our off-shore manufacturer for sign off, and then manufactured to very high quality design, and manufacturing, standards. We do not try to compete with the bottom end of the market as quality (product and installation), permanent extensions to your living space is our focus.
Our locally owned and operated LouvreRoofPro specialists will measure, quote, install, and commission the structure themselves - not relying on third party installers who have no real ownership in the final solution.
Like anything, you get what you pay for both in terms of product, expertise, and service. If you are after a DIY temporary structure for between $3000 and $6000, LouvreRoofPro is not able to assist. While we can offer standard sized manually operated pergolas for DIY installation, these are still based on mid to high end product, not comparable to low budget offerings.
We welcome your enquiries if you are looking for competitively priced, quality structures that will truly enhance your property.
